BEWARE OF THE DECEITFULNESS OF RICHES

In the world today, many people believe that wealth essentially replicates success and happiness. They work tirelessly to accumulate wealth, believing that having more money will make them more comfortable and secure. This does not seem to hold the truth which God's word reveals. The Holy Bible warns us against the deceitfulness of riches.

The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy 6:10, "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (KJV). This well-known passage warns us that the desire for wealth can lead us away from God's plan for our lives. When we become obsessed with acquiring money and possessions, we can easily lose sight of important aspects of God's directives. Thereby, going astray into ungodliness. Craving after material riches primarily makes our focus to shift from serving God to gratification of the flesh and its desires. Instead of being content with what we have, we become consumed by the desire for more.

Jesus himself gives us a clear warning about the dangers of riches in Matthew 19:23-24. He says, "Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God" (KJV). As this passage cautions us against the pursuit of wealth, we must be careful not to allow it to lead us away from God's path and ultimate purpose for our lives in order to fulfill the conditions for entering His Kingdom at last. We must not allow our love for money and material possessions to become an obstacle that hinders our spiritual growth and prevents us from experiencing the abundant life that Jesus Christ has promised us.

The truth remains that, riches can be deceitful. We must not nurse the perception that having more money will bring us peace and happiness because in reality it can bring us more stress, worry, and anxiety. We can easily become trapped in the pursuit of wealth and always strive for more of it while never feeling satisfied with what we have, if we accommodate this deceptive perception. In James 5:1-3, we are reminded that the accumulation of wealth comes at a cost. "Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days" (KJV). The warning in the passage tells us not to desire for riches that can lead us to the wrong path which ends in Hell Fire. There is no returning back once one falls into the pit of Hell burning with Fire. It is not a place of merriment. You must know that there are worms there and they can not be dried up by the Fire burning in there. God designed it originally for the punishment of Satan and all those that disobeyed his instructions. Don't be ferried into such a horrible place by your desire and quest for deceitful riches. Instead, serve God with all that he has provided and care for others too. Do not become selfish or greedy in any way. Share the goodness of God with those whom God brings across your path because in the end, our wealth will be meaningless without service to God and our pursuit of riches without having Christ as the LORD of our lives will have been in vain. We must carefully avoid the deceitful traps of riches and be guided by the thought that true wealth comes from serving God and sharing his goodness with others. We should be sure to seek opportunities to use our resources to further the advancement of God's kingdom on earth by helping to spread His love and hope to those around us.

In conclusion, the Holy Bible makes us aware of the dangers of riches. We should endeavour to study it voraciously because our success in the Kingdom of God depends on it. We must also be guided by it as we go about our daily activities. Placing God First, will help us escape the trap of pursuing wealth at the expense of our spiritual well-being. As we seek opportunities to spread the love of God and share in His righteousness, may He guide and direct us to follow His path both secretly and in the public, in Jesus Name, Amen.

DO NOT DEPAIR

Having found out whom God is... DO NOT DESPAIR TEXT: PSALM 13:1-6 Key verse: “How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?” (Psalm 13:1) . Life throws up new challenges every day. This often makes the believer begin to think that God had abandoned him. Except he rouses himself up, he would become discouraged and lose all hope that help would ever come to him. David got to that point many times in his numerous battles in life. He probably prayed and fasted for long periods, but the onslaught of the enemy did not end. He was running out of options, hence he spoke in desperation to God. He seemed to conclude that He had forsaken him and wondered how long God would hide himself, and how long he was going to be abandoned to himself, getting ever more sorrowful daily. He was troubled that the enemy seemed to be triumphing over him; ...

NO SHORTCUT

If it is to be done aright, be rest assured that there is... NO SHORTCUT BELIEVERS' DIGEST PUBLICATION Bible Reading: 1 KINGS 15:16-24 Key Verse: “There is a league between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; come and break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me” (1 Kings 15:19). Men always seek shortcut to success in life. Rather than live by God’s righteous standard, they seek to achieve success by any means possible. They justify their action by arguing that the end does indeed justify the means. This is despite their moral failings and character flaws, all of which contravene God’s expectations from His children. Such was the beginning of the end for King Asa, who had begun well to rule Judah and had introduced gr...

A GEM OF SPECTACULAR INFLUENCE

WINNERS' INTEREST PUBLICATION A GEM OF SPECTACULAR INFLUENCE Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 3:19-21 (KJV) Key Verse: “And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground” (1 Samuel 3:19). The world, in which we live today is filled with corrupting influences. This forms the basis of God's call to His people to rise as rare treasures of purity and power. A “Gem of Spectacular Influence” is not an ordinary person. It describes a believer whose life carries unique, enduring value that transcends fleeting worldly trends. Like a precious gem that retains its brilliance even in darkness, such a life reflects resolute determination to pursue excellence in glorifying God, undimmed by surrounding negativity. The story of Samuel powerfully illustrates this truth. Raised in the tabernacle at Shiloh under the aged priest Eli, Samuel was surrounded by evil practices. Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were notorious for ...
